Partners: My Homeland (Watanili)
Collaborators: BOLD Gym, 961 Adventures
The Rihla Initiative, launched in collaboration with My Homeland Watanlili, builds on four years of meaningful participatory projects in public spaces with the Karantina community. The initiative aims to foster and strengthen our relationship with the children and women we have worked with, while offering recreational, cultural, and educational opportunities beyond their neighbourhood.
The first trip, to BOLD Gym, was filled with energy and excitement. Children of various age groups participated, ensuring inclusivity and enjoyment for all. Activities such as trampoline jumping, indoor climbing, basketball, and football provided a dynamic outlet for their energy and creativity.
“I am so happy and excited—I don’t want to go home! Every time we fell, we laughed so much and bounced right back up. It’s been such a long time since I felt this joyful and full of energy.”

The second trip included women from the Karantina’s Women Collective for Public Space Right ‘My Happiness in My Park’, offering them an opportunity to enjoy quality time with their children. This trip took families to the Jabal Moussa Biosphere Reserve for a delightful picnic-style activity.
It was a heartfelt gesture of gratitude for the collective’s dedication to managing Karantina Public Park. The Women’s Collective was formed in 2023 after a series of training sessions under the Urgent Action Fund Advocacy Programme. These sessions equipped women with advocacy skills and supported them in co-designing a sustainable plan for the park’s opening and collective management.
"It’s been 19 years since I last immersed myself in the water or embraced the beauty of nature—this moment will forever linger in my memory."
